Speech Given by Drew Warchut at the Annual Meeting:
I am proud to present the ClassConn Distinguished Service Award for 2023 to Arlette de Koning. I’ve worked with Arlette as her co-chair for the CSLGD (Connecticut State Latin and Greek Day) committee since 2017 – indeed, she convinced me to take on the job! Arlette has been a fantastic partner because she has skills that I lack, namely her attention to people and treating them well, being open to big new ideas, and keeping a positive attitude even when the world is literally shutting down. It has been a pleasure to work with her, and get to know her as well.
Arlette serves on the ClassConn board, serves as the ClassConn liaison to COLT, and has served on the Latin and Greek Day Committee longer than anyone – so long she wouldn’t (or couldn’t) tell me when I asked at our meeting last month. Her longtime service, her commitment to Classics in Connecticut make her eminently qualified to receive this award. Congratulations, Arlette, on receiving the Distinguished Service Award!
